Tips For Motivating Remote Employees
People like working from home for the flexibility but staying motivated can be difficult. According to the US Chamber of Commerce, “Remote employees often struggle with loneliness, distractions, and staying focused.” Here are a few ways to get your employees out of that rut and excited about work again.
Make Work Engaging
Motivation stems from engaging and purposeful work, so this is a great place to start. One way to make work more engaging is to give employees the opportunity to solve problems. When those problems matter to the business, it demonstrates an important purpose. Ask your Work from Home (WFH) employees to choose an issue they care about. Have them think creatively about how to solve it. And schedule time with them to try these new ideas. This process will help them feel that their ideas are valued and keep them excited about work.
Macromanaging Instead of Micromanaging
It is tempting to closely monitor an employee’s work when they seem to have lost motivation. However, evidence shows that micromanagement can have adverse effects on an employee’s motivation. Alternatively, try macromanagement. Show the employee you trust them. Give them control and autonomy over their work as well as regular feedback and support.
In today’s remote and hybrid work world, it is important to keep your employees motivated. For additional motivation tips, check out the US Chamber of Commerce article, How to Motivate WFH Employees.
